I have somewhat mixed feelings……….

good there are not a lot of substantial changes from the existing model. I like the 1293cc but can not say the colour schemes have blown me away……..gone are the beautiful coloured wheels that I came to like so much. Don’t like the change in switchgear……I use both and prefer the dual switches. Do like the LED tail light and quick shifter? The new side stand is……well new

Overall???..........not really disappointed but not overly excited either……….think I’m reserved on the bike.

Will I buy one?.......probably (to get my hands on the 1300 machine) – the multi coloured one

Although this specs are far less official as the "unofficial official" leaked pictures.....here goes

Engine : 1293cc
Power : close to 180hp
Weight :255 kg fully fueled
Torque : significantly more than the K12
Optional HP gear swithch automatic (HP2 Sport)
Exhaust valve type Exup and shorter hexagonal silencer
Little changes to Duolever and swingarm, about 1100 gr lighter
New ESA2 optional
Japanese style to indicators (left handlebar)

We should know the full story after Intermot - 8 to 12/10/08

Ok some "more official" technical data on the K1300S......and this is hot of the press

"As impressive as its top speed may be, it already delivers its power a lot earlier, from standstill so to speak. In the lower and middle rev range, where more than 80% of road riding takes place, this engine really packs a punch. And you’ll feel it straight away: 140 Nm from 1,293 cc. The 175 bhp delivered at 9.250 rpm are of course also very welcomed by all speed freaks"

I was personally hoping for something closer to 180 bhp in stock form but still, this is some serious power

The stock K1200S delivers 167 bhp @ 10250rpm and 130Nm torque @ 8250rpm

The K1300GT will have the same torque with the power @ 160 bhp

"Compared to the performance category the 4-cylinder is very restrained when it comes to fuel consumption and emissions. New digital engine electronics settings as well as a newly designed exhaust system with hexagonally shaped silencer and electronically controlled flap control including 3-way catalytic converter are the reasons. Once again BMW Motorrad shows how modern engines should be built. The fact that they also produce a throaty sound is a great sign for the combination of common sense and emotion."

"You’ll find a lot of that in the design of the K 1300 S, too. Compared to her predecessor she has become slimmer, the aerodynamic, 18 mm narrower fairing top section just being one of a whole series of visual alterations which make it a completely unmistakeable and absolutely dynamic motorcycle.

The driveline offers maximum traction in line with the motorbike’s sporty dynamics. The maintenance-free shaft drive, which is still unique in this class, with new two-level cardan shaft operates on the other side of the gearbox which has also been adapted to the engine’s power and shifts extremely smoothly. The rear wheel features the new dimensions 190/55. For especially sporty shifters there is a very special optional extra – an automatic shifter. You no longer need to use the clutch when shifting up – just slam in the gears!

1st PICS OF THE K1300 Quicks10

The Duolever front wheel guidance - introduced in the BMW K 1200 S - with its newly designed lower longitudinal strut, safeguards even higher riding precision and maximum riding stability. The firm spring/damper settings give the rider perfect road feedback. Optimum chassis geometry, central mass distribution and a constructionally designed low centre of gravity result in an absolutely harmonious overall package which offers handling and balance which are simply thrilling in this class. Performance has been increased even further. For the K 1300 S the ESA II option is available, the electronically adjustable 2nd generation suspension. The spring base, spring rate and damping are synchronised – automatically. This innovation means you can set your suspension with the press of a button, no matter how heavily laden you are. ABS is standard on this model, the ASC Automatic Stability Control is available as an option."

The controls are also a major factor when it comes to ergonomics. In the new K models the new generation of switches for all coming BMW motorcycles has been introduced for the first time. Ergonomics have been optimised, space requirements have been reduced and MID technology* has been introduced. In short – the controls simply feel and look better.

that includes a single switch (similar to Japanese bikes) to do left and right indication.......not sure I'm overly happy with this

*Moulded Interconnect Design, printed circuits in the switch unit instead of individual wiring.

"And should you feel like clocking up some laps on the racetrack and want your information presented in motorsports style, you can order the optional 2D-dashboard presented for the first time in the BMW HP2 Sport. Digital racing thrills!"

this is what the 2D race style dash looks like

so what's the connection here?........

centre stand = nice couple/person
no centre stand = bad people

you trying to tell me something? Shocked Laughing Laughing Laughing

to answer your question, no I don't believe the centre stand is an option on the K1300S at the moment. But not to worry, I have heard (from a respectable source) that Midas will soon stock an aftermarket one made exclusively for them by Arceye Eddies Welding......a nice big and strong one that can double as a crash bobbin as well......apparently no too heavy either - only 20kg Wink

btw - nice pic of a great bike pirat

Nice looking bike. I hardly ever use the clutch to change up gears so that must mean all the bikes I have had, have had the auto clutch arrangement, good to know Razz

I still think it will be wicked fast and more than enough to kill yourself on. The plus side as always, its the only hyper tourer with every safety bell and whistle on it. I think for many perhaps the only draw back will be the price, then again for some that is not an issue.

Cannot wait to see one in the metal, I am sure I will not have to go far either.....

I'm pleasantly surprised by the price difference elsewhere between the 1200 and the 1300. –excluding the “R” model

The prices for Germany have been set. This can not be converted using the exchange rate to see what we will pay. We should, however, experience more or less the same % increase locally…..unless someone decides to do you know what to us.

The German prices are:

for the 2009 K1300

S - 15.750 Euro (+ 1.03%)
R - 13.750 Euro (+19.67%)
GT - 17.600 Euro (+0.92%)

for the 2008 K1200

S - 15.590 Euro
R - 11.490 Euro
GT - 17.440 Euro

If the above is anything to go by, we should be paying roughly the following locally for the K1300 (different formula used for the R):

S – R138 000
R – R124 000
GT – R160 000

The above obviously excludes the ever present “optionals” like ESA etc. except for the GT which comes full house. AND

this is only a “guesstimation” albeit an educated one. Wink Let’s not jump the gun……too many variables can and must be factored in.

really had to pull out the stops and use all the connections but I found something for you "tall man".......as per the press release directly from "Germanië"

now you can read for yourself what the "recommendation" is from the Bavarian bike builders regarding the centre stand on the K1300S........but as you can see, they left some room for the likes of yourselves Very Happy

"Reflecting the true style of a genuine sports machine, the K 1300 S comes
in regular trim with only one side-stand. A main stand is however available
as special equipment and may be retrofitted within a matter of minutes."
