Inner bags for panniers Empty Inner bags for panniers

Post by steyngert 11th September 2008, 16:32

I have had the Adventure now for a few months, and if there is anything I would like to see changed in the design, it is to give the panniers handles. Having traveled with it a bit, i also realised that I am not utilising all the available space in the panniers due to the illfitting bags I put in them. The left, oddly shaped pannier also provides issues of its own.

The BMW inner bags are just too expensive, and I am not in the mood to purchase something from overseas. I have found someone on the web that I will go see this afternoon that will custom make inner bags for the panniers from thick, durable canvas. An initial price indication was about R200 per inner bag.

I will let you all know what the final quotation is and also where and how to find her etc.

Watch this space...

World of Accessories on Malibongwe ( Hans Strydom) next to Linex Yamaha used to sell inner bags for the panniers.Worth a try.
The panniers are great to travel with, but a bugger to carry when you get to your destination. When I did a Natal Spa trip with Dave & Dorothy, I had to carry my Top Box to my room from the car park. What an effort ! Inners would have been a solution.
I find that I get wiser after every trip !
Let us know how your local find turns out.

After the Natal SPA trip I saw how easy it was to cratch the panniers on the walls while carrying them around. I immediately got the BMW inners for our GT.
I really think you can get cheaper ones, but I seriously doubt if you will get better ones for the same price or less. They are incredibly sturdy and we even use them when we fly to Cape Town.
They can take a lot of stuff and you do not have to worry about all the things getting stuck in the lids every time you try and open one of the panniers.

When kitting out the LT for travelling i also looked at the real BMW liners, then available. Was R1500 for the top box liner alone (2004). Took the panniers inner measurements and bought excellent Celini bags for all 3 panniers at 20% of what the BMW inners would have cost. And being Celine bags - we also use it for other traveling as well.

I did exactly the same. Got Celili bags that fit very nicely into my RT panniers for a total cost of R300, and as LeRoy says, they can also be used for normal travel Very Happy

Had to bite the bullet today as I needed panniers for our train trip.
Had to really punish the credit card which I had pain stakingly managed to pay off. The bank even called when the transaction went through to check if everything was OK ! Yes, I may be a bit poorer, but I now own panniers !

As previously mentioned, the inner bags are available from World of Accessories on Malibongwe next to Linex Yamaha.
I bought a set today. R350 each. Just packed for our train trip and loaded the inner bags into the panniers. They fit like a glove ! What a pleasure !

A hair dryer is an essential part of any trip for most people, but I luckily never have a bad hair day anymore and I have no hair ! These days it's more a polish and a buff !

They are absolutely stunning! She has the measurements for the GS1200 Adventure panniers, you just need to take her your panniers and she will have them custom made! Cost was R1500.00

Those inners are really very professionally made. Mine are very basic and functional. Would have paid more for yours.

What I also realized on our recent train trip that the panniers, although very light, are very difficult to carry. Dave S mentioned there are straps available for the pannier lids in the form of carry handles. What a great idea. Where can one get these ?
