Expensive wash :-)
Ok, so I took my GSA to Bavarian East for it's 30,000km wash, a brake line recall and a service.
When I returned the afternoon to pick up my bike, Simon stood there, shaking his head and making those ominous whistles of "hier kom groot ..."). Big problem - rear carrier bearing in the diff is shot. When I hear any part being mentioned by name that has something to do with the final drive, I get concerned... really concerned... It turned out that the bearing was severely rusted - not sure if someone, somewhere jammed a high pressure washer in there
Took another day to replace and as I was about to pay yesterday, Nicole and I noticed that the bearing was for free! R0.00. Obviously she's a woman of integrity and quickly produced another invoice!
All in all I ended up having to replace brake pads (fortunately I had a set off my old GS in the garage), the rear wheel bearing, 3 different recall jobs, 30k service and a wash! And I still paid less than what I was bracing myself for!
That is one of the reasons why I ride a BMW, and why I take it to Bavarian East - AWESOME SERVICE!

Re: Expensive wash :-)
Dropped my bike for its 20k service, well not dropped, took it in. Gave me a NEW GSA to go to work. Is it better? Yes or No? Long story short – it is smoother, makes less of a noise when engaging 1st.
I have driven a GSA for 3 years now. A 2006 model and a 2009 model. I couldn’t wait to buy the 2009 model because of the extra gadgets, (All the “knoppies” you can change)
For me, who just enjoy the riding and doesn’t really know much about the insides of the contraption, it is about the things I can see and feel, not the extra 1% or 2% or 3% power that a can’t really see or feel.
Even if the salesman or the guys with the newest model sais that there is a huge difference, if you have a 1200 GS or GSA doesn’t matter what model you have a great bike.
So for all those guys like me that doesn’t have the mula for a new model, relax, you still have a cool bike.

Maybe it was Drix! He's been known to have consumed a wheel bearing or two in his riding career. But wait! Drix didn't ride my bike
Toemaar KK - I don't know if one can determine the age of rust, but it looked older than 2 days!!
