The engine blew.. what now?
What would you do?
"I own a 2009 BMW R1200S with only 3000km. My bike is immaculate.
3 weeks ago, the engine blew. Bike towed to BMW PE. I’m based in Queenstown and PE (400km) is the closest BMW dealership.
The BMW callcentre and George’s, (the workshop manager), service was excellent.
A week ago I was told that the conrod came loose and damaged the engine badly. The flames were caused by the hot oil that caught alight with the hot exhaust. Luckily the flames died off 'cos the tank was still full of fuel.
Yesterday George sms’d me that they still waiting for a decision from BMW SA and Germany.
George mentioned that it’s all up to BMW SA.
I would not want a new engine put in cos I’ll be riding in fear, resale value will be affected and will be classed as a re-build.
Please can anyone assist or advise me.
I would like a new bike, cos mileage low and I bought it brand new.
Now that the R1200S is off the market, what are my options?
If I had the extra cash, I would trade it in for a S1000RR.

Re: The engine blew.. what now?
AFAIK, if BMW decide to replace the engine, it will still be registered as a Code 2 - i.e. previously owned - on resale. A NATIS engine change will need to be done on the registration papers, though.
A Code 3 - i.e. re-build - only applies if the vehicle is scrapped, de-registered on NATIS and then re-registered on NATIS.

Re: The engine blew.. what now?
Few questions - was the bike bought on BMW's insurance - surely they should then just replace it. When in 2009 was it bought, and is it at 2009 model - remember the warrantee is for the first 2 years - should also cover this - suggest admin takes it up with Roger/Bavaria just to clarify the principle.
