Eskom...
Eskom would like to remind its customers that it is no longer
politically correct to refer to power failures as "black outs".
Reference must now be made to "previously lit" areas.

In the perfect world maybe - funny that the moment they stopped selling our power to the neigbouring states the BS stopped for now. Maybe we should all tranfer to gas & solar pannels

Re: Eskom...
One thing about using electricity - for much of your daily life, you can choose to use it or not.
Solar recharged battery powered LED lighting.
Solar stoves make great casseroles!
Add insulation to your hot water cylinder and put it on a timer so you only heat the water when you need it.
Buy an exercise bicycle and connect it to a generator to pedal-power your TV...
Grow your own veggies other food so you don't have to drive to the shops.
This could just be the initiator of major positive lifestyle changes...
But I do think that the negative effect on marginal industries will be a death knell for thousands of jobs too...!

Re: Eskom...
I see Oxford makes a Solar powered battery tender.
You can keep you battery charged by sunlight.
Under R500...

Re: Eskom...
Changed to a Gas stove a number of years ago - 48Kg bottle lasts 14 months and cost between R600 and R800 - depending what time of the year you buy it. Also have a gas fire place - one 48 lasts the winter. Still need to do the solar panels thing though - that is next.

I was referring to solar panels for the geyser.
