Is it not time that our club decide on which GPS waypoint to use?

In the setup menu of every GPS there are a number of types of writing and this can cause confusion amongst members/users.

What do you say is the most popular that we should stick to?

I normally use the little red flag for general directional WP's - otherwise i use the item specific WP as used on the GPS

I think Johan means the specific format of the waypoint - eg hours, minutes, seconds etc. There are various options for this.

You mean co-ordinate system?

I think the decimal degree format is most commonly used?
e.g.: S25 47.116 E28 16.660

I would propose the following format, as this is the factory default format that all Garmin units ships with.

Format / Grid: S 26˚12.295’ E 028˚02.402’ also known as Lat/Lon hddd˚mm.mmm'(h ddd˚mm.mmm')
Datum: WGS 84

I also use this format. I find it the easiest to use and to understand. And as GSing said, Datum: WGS 84.

I agree, this also the geocaching standard.

I think when people talk about 'decimal' they normally mean this standard: S25.47116 E28.88890

It's the first time I see people agree - magazines, forums, articles all use whatever they like, even mixing the formats. And ambulances get sent to the wrong place and people die, such as GS Challenge 2008.

In conclusion...

Are we in agreement that this is the preferred format?

Shall we ask Committee to confirm and publish as standard, also in RRR and S&P?
