Extended Warranty on Bikes
My bike, a 2007 1200GS, is now just coming out of the 2 year Factory Warranty from BMW.
I always worry that should something go wrong out of the Warranty Period what would it cost to repair.
I know BMW are very good about sorting out problems even out of the Warranty period, but
just for piece of mind, I decided to get an Extended Warranty from Bavaria on Sat.morning.
They have a product which they sell for +/- R3700 for 2 year cover.(depending on bike )
AND you can transfer this cover to another bike should you change bikes.( which I will most probably do in the New Year)
For more info, please contact Finance person at Bavaria.

Re: Extended Warranty on Bikes
Now this is good news!
Just a point of criticism towards Bavarian; why are clients not informed of this new possibility?
I know it was investigated and the last I heard mention was about 18 months ago. My RT is also without cover since June and I will follow this up as a matter of urgency!

Re: Extended Warranty on Bikes
It is not a BMW product.
I even once asked Lauchlan Harris why BMW does not offer such a product.
It works on their cars, why can it not work for bikes.
I think this is a product from SA Warrantys, but Roger said that they have had no problems with them and they pay out when needed - no problems.
For R 3700 for 2 years, I think it is worth it.
Please chat to FNI( Finance lady) at Bavaria

Re: Extended Warranty on Bikes
Correct a S A Warranties product. I took one out on the new Tiger I bought in August. It will kick in for a further two years at the expiry of the manufacturers warranty.

Re: Extended Warranty on Bikes
It is basically an insurance product.
You bet them R3700 that you bike will have a breakdown within in two years.
They bet you back at a whole list of different odds that it won't.
Sometimes you win the bet, sometimes they win the bet.
When they win the bet, you only lose R3700.
When you win the bet, they fix your bike for you up to the limit of the category.
I also didn't know about this two years ago.
On my 2004 GS, I didn't make the bet and so I lost.
I had to pay over R10k for a new clutch.
The SA Warranties cover for the clutch was R17k.
I lost R7300 !
Go for it, DeonP!

Re: Extended Warranty on Bikes
Thanks Richard
I think it is simply worth it just for peace-of-mind !
Hope I never have to use it.
The BEST part of this scheme is that you can transfer it to another bike if you sell your bike !
I think it is R3700 well spent !

Re: Extended Warranty on Bikes
Spoke to Petra yesterday when I wanted to buy the insurance.
The previous package was for bikes before they reached 80000km. The new package limits to 60000km. This came as a surprise to her too as nothing was mentioned by the reps at the official briefing.
Petra is investigating whether this may be a typing error. She will keep me informed.
I sincerely hope so as my RT is already on 76000km - with no serious problems thus far.
