ONE TO GO
We are on a roll now.......
so, Pontdrif it was this weekend
impressive rock on the way to Alldays
no, we don't have an identity crises - we made a judgement error in booking our overnight spot, our info was (slightly) off and a 27km stretch of gravel awaited the two (sport) road bikes.
road bikes need a bit more attention than deflating tyres and switching off ABS before hitting serious gravel
a nice venue........if you are on a GS
when it starts to rain during the night and you are at a venue with a road bike with 27km of gravel awaits, the problems increase exponentially.........
It took us (not the GS) a loooong time to reach the tar and the less said about this section from hell, the better......what happens on a trip stays on a trip..........
we made it eventually
nevertheless, a great ride otherwise

Re: ONE TO GO
Rest assure, to do that stretch of gravel on a road bike is NOT the preferred choice........to try and do it on a sport bike with near slicks for tyres and almost non-existent suspension travel, was a somewhat foolish decision. But the words of a “wise man” kept on ringing through my ears – don’t worry, the road will get better..........it did not.
So at which point does one decide to call it off?
BIG respect for the Mermaid though!!!!!!!
The long and the short is I don’t think there will be a large scale “invasion of terrain” soon.

Great ride..
Unexpected situations usually raise the adrenalin, broaden the horisons and make good stories for years to come!
All the best for the last ONE!

Re: ONE TO GO
So true, more good than bad for us to retain......
After so many incident free miles, some under fairly difficult circumstances, one’s confidence rises to almost untouchable levels which of course is an illusion. Nothing better than an experience like this to bring you back to reality.....quickly.
....not to mention the effects of the “morning after”
as you said, still makes for a good story afterwords........
one thing is for sure, the shortest leg of the 4 corners will be remembered

Re: ONE TO GO
Well done! We are looking forward to doing what you did. Ours is called a Quest because it will take quite a while to do it in between family gatherings and work. (I will have to look at the work side, it is messing up our riding)
