19 September: Come show your bike?
Rosemare Visser is involved at a psychological clinic in Mamelodi and put the following request to our Club:
"We have a family fun day on the Mamelodi Campus of UP for the Community to promote the clinic on 19 September, 9:00 - 15:00.
We ask for volunteers to coordinate some kind of activity for the children... We have someone doing ponyrides... don't you think it's a funky idea to have motorbike rides... This is a very poor community and we want to bless them with this fun day."
Unfortunately we had to decline her idea of taking the children for rides on our bikes.
In the words of our Chairman:
"We regret that we cannot offer children rides on our members' motorcycles at your event as this would expose the members to legal claims in the event a child were to fall off and get injured. As a Club we strongly advocate safety when riding, including the wearing of full riding suits, helmets, boots and gloves."
So here is our request: Are you prepared to ride to the event to put your motorcycle on display to be admired?
If we can make up a group of riders to go to the event for an hour or two and then do a Saturday run with maybe a breakfast/brunch somewhere?
Any interest?
(Directions to the venue will be provided.)

Re: 19 September: Come show your bike?
I read this post earlier today and have been contemplating it for a while as well as my responce to it. Personally - the idee behind this is commendable, but i doubt if this is a good idee.
I dont think one should display the bikes - make the kids aware of it and not allow the kids a ride. It will be tantamount to placing a cake infront of somebody with the instruction to only look at it and smell it without taking a bite.
I very much doubt that i will be availble for this project. And it is not the area that is playing a role here - i regularly have to travel to Hammanskraal and all of the norther structures in geographical are known as Tshwane, with the LT as i commute daily with the LT.

If they are under 18 it wont be worth the paper it is written on. Tend to agree with Richarsd perspective that we propagate the waering of safety clothes at all times. As was did last year with the training session at Swartkops where youngsters from Boys Town were taken onto the track - all wearing safety gear.
