Bit of a long shot this...

Back in the mid to late 1970s, I read an article in a UK bike magazine about
two South African blokes buying then-new R90S BMWs from the South London
dealer Gus Kuhn and driving home to SA. As I remember it, they rode to
Venice and caught a ferry which went to Greece, Crete, Cyprus then
Alexandria Egypt. From Alex, they rode south.

Accompanying the article were various photos, the most inspiring of which
depicted the two R90S BMWs in front of the Pyramids. Inspiring stuff indeed,
and I announced I'd do the same one day.

That day came a couple of years ago and I rode my R90S to Genoa (Italy),
caught the ferry to Tunis and rode through Tunisia, Libya Egypt, Sinai,
Jordan, Syria, Turkey and back through Europe home.

Once home, I tried to find that original article.

I failed dismally.

I thought it had been published in BIKE, but Hugo Wilson - current editor of
Classic Bike and a former editor of BIKE - went through their archives to no
avail. I am in contact with Valerie Davey formerly of Gus Kuhn Motors but
she's not managed to turn up anything.

So...

Any chance of putting a request in your magazine and/or internet contacts on
my behalf ?

I would be very grateful.

Because, if you think about it, surely I couldn't have undertaken a trip
emulating people that only existed in my imagination?

Mind you, truth is stranger than fiction (but often more dangerous).

Thanks Dani,

Regards,
