Garmin Oregon, just check whether you can live with the visibility - sometimes a problem during the day depending on the angle of the sunlight. Don't touch the Colorado, I had 3 of them in less than a year before switching to Oregon (all Avnic replacements)

Nuvi 500 also a nice option.

Zumo 400/500 discontinued, so scarce to get and not suitable to geocaching. Zumo 660 on its way, don't think its any better at geocaching.

My opinion Garmin 276C or whatever it's newer version is called for Adventure riding.

None of the other GPS's comes close to it.

Also the preferred choice of a certain Jan "Staal" Du Toit. Very Happy

dom vraag......

Apart from the lack of geocaching ability as Drix has pointed out, why not the Zumo? or for that matter why the 276C (or it's replacement) or the Oregon

I thought the Zumo was designed specifically for biking applications......my needs might be average but it were served by the Zumo thus far and it never gave me any problems.

Ja Tinus. Soveel mense soveel voorstelle.

Wow!

Well, as I said, the Zumo 400/500 is discontinued, therefore very few available at dealers. Sort of like an old RT or LT. When it works it works extremely well for what it was intended for.

60CSx is a great model, robust, just old (but great) technology. Same with 276. They also work. 60CSx is like the Dakar. 276 is an 1150 Adventure.

Nuvi 500 and Oregon is more like a new 1200GS with K1300S technology. Not perfect, but setting new standards, like DEM maps, lots of memory, etc.

Why I personally wouldn't buy the older ones? Simply the paperless geocaching and the DEM (think shades and high quality - combined with overlaying, i.e. Topo maps over DEM) - once you're used to it, it's very difficult to go back.

Do you need it? No.

Do I need my 800? No, Dakar was fine. Can I go back? It is going to be difficult.... not that I will see my 800 for a while... have I told you about the depression that goes with bikelessness...?

Definitely Zumo 660. Long discussion on the WD forum. Quiet a few guys bought from the UK direct at prices around R5 500. I am also placing my order.

Seized wheel bearing on 800 (messed up ABS, brakes, and some other shredded/melted metal that I guess had some purpose) - I'm in "waiting for parts..." mode.... Not happy at all.

On that point, I've learnt the value of buying GPS locally - 3 Colorados and 2 Oregons (hopefully) in just over a year. The Colorado was a pre-mature product and couldn't handle geocaching in SA on an 800GS, the Oregon was not the unit's fault. I'm not sure one can get that service overseas back and forth. But maybe you can, just something to keep in mind.

Zumo 660 looks very cool, like the bigger screen. Even has a compass, so could work for geocaching, just not paperless. Which is very NB to me, not others. ...and I assume you have the Topo and DEM maps sorted buying from the UK.
